Preserving biodiversity at URN

Managing 48 hectares of land spread over 5 communes and 8 sites, the University plays a significant role in protecting local flora and fauna. In this respect, the aim is to encourage biodiversity on the various campuses, by reducing the impact of the establishment’s missions and activities on its environment.

In addition, the Ecocampus cluster aims to raise awareness among as many staff and students as possible of the importance of understanding and preserving the living world. Through awareness-raising and participatory science initiatives, the aim is to encourage the entire university community to discover and protect local biodiversity.

This approach aims to create eco-responsible campuses, with a view to improving the quality of life of the university community, without forgetting that of the other species that live there.

FOCUS: differentiated management

To enable biodiversity to flourish, the University has been implementing integrated management of its green spaces since 2013. Almost half of these areas are mowed only once a year, providing a habitat for wild flora, pollinators and insects of all kinds, small mammals…
