The TRANSITION ExcellencES France 2030 project (ANR-23-EXES-0013)
Symbol of the company’s commitment to the socio-ecological transition
Developments in climate change, the destruction of biodiversity, the depletion of resources, pollution, energy and health crises… are alarming and require us to speed up the ecological transition and transform our society.
For over fifteen years, the University of Rouen Normandie has been committed to becoming a benchmark institution in the socio-ecological transition, and the TRANSITION ANR-23-EXES-0013 project, which won the France 2030 ExcellencES call for projects, confirms this ambition.
A partnership project for training in socio-ecological transition and research into the “multi-risks” associated with climate change
With funding of €5.4m, URN and its partners – INSA Rouen Normandie, École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Normandie, CNRS and CHU Rouen Normandie – have set themselves a number of ambitious goals:
- To become a reference site in France for acculturation, training and research on ecological transition (ET), sustainable development (SD) and risk culture.
- Strengthen research into multiple risks (environmental, industrial, health, economic and societal), with a focus on climate change.
- Develop a shared vision of the issues at stake between project partners (URN, INSA, ENSAN, CHU, CNRS) and socio-economic players.
- Train for the professions of tomorrow and support the development of existing professions to meet the challenges of the transition.
- Disseminate and share experiences and actions on a national and European scale (INGENIUM and ECIU alliances).
Over the eight years of the project (2024-2032), several structuring actions are planned:
- Create two resource centers:
An educational resource center (Re_Source) to train students, staff and teachers in the ecological transition.
A multi-hazard scientific expertise center (CESM) to share risk and multi-hazard data.
- Create a Graduate School on multi-risks related to climate change
- Set up a foundation to support and promote research and training in ecological and societal transition issues.
To carry out these activities, URN works in partnership with ENSAN, CHU, CNRS and INSA, as well as with the socio-economic world. In fact, the actions are also of use to local decision-makers, to help them take the right decisions in the face of the challenges posed by climate change in Normandy.
Operationally, the project is supported by the T.URN Institute, which acts as an interface between internal stakeholders (staff from components, laboratories, departments, students), the four partners and external stakeholders (regional socio-economic and cultural players, national and international ESR). The team is made up of nine people who will reinforce the Institute’s “training” and “research” divisions.
