Research related to the TRANSITION project
The TRANSITION project (ANR-23-EXES-0013) has five general objectives:
- To become a reference site in France for acculturation, training and research on ecological transition (ET), sustainable development (SD) and risk culture.
- Strengthen research into multiple risks (environmental, industrial, health, economic and societal), with a focus on climate change.
- Develop a shared vision of the issues at stake between project partners (URN, INSA, ENSAN, CHU, CNRS) and socio-economic players.
- Train for the professions of tomorrow and support the development of existing professions to meet the challenges of the transition.
- Disseminate and share experiences and actions on a national and European scale (INGENIUM and ECIU alliances).
In terms of research, the project includes a number of actions.
Firstly, risks specific to Normandy are studied: flooding and coastal recession (rising sea levels, precipitation, rising groundwater levels), flooding of the Seine and its associated impacts, heat waves, drought, fires, urban heat islands, in conjunction with the development of a “multirisk” approach. This approach makes it possible to study the interactions between natural, industrial, health, economic and societal risks, using transdisciplinary methods. It also enables analysis of cascading and concomitant effects during crises. The aim is to develop indicators and tools for forecasting, anticipating, mitigating and adapting to multi-hazard situations.
With the creation of the Centre d’expertise scientifique sur le multirisques (CESM) (link to CESM), data, maps and models are now available to researchers and local decision-makers alike. Indeed, the project’s aim is to produce decision-making tools and bring together the University and socio-economic players.
Ultimately, TRANSITION is designed to provide a systemic, localized vision of the risks associated with climate change.
Operationally, the team involved in these actions is part of the T.URN Institute’s Research division.
